Mexicana Airlines Complaint - Mexicana Airlines Sucks - horrible customer service - Lost Luggage

Lost Luggage - Complaint
Review by Elissa45 on 2010-01-26
DON'T FLY MEXICANA AIRLINES!

I flew into Mexico City on a layover to Bogota. My luggage never arrived and I was assured it would follow the next day to Bogota. That never happened. I spent HOURS in Bogota dealing with the Mexicana agent (luckily, a friend was fluent in Spanish and was able to translate otherwise, this would have been a completely lost cause). Hours LATER, the agent took me to look at the lost luggage section but my bag wasn't there. She assured me she would contact me the next day with information, but that never happened. Incidently, Mexicana had 6 computers in the office in Bogota and all were turned off save one. The woman was looking in an old paper book... in this day and age? Paper?

Long story short, my luggage NEVER arrived but instead, SOMEONE ELSE'S LUGGAGE was sent to my house with MY TAG on it. The tag was in perfect condition so someone at Mexicana intentionally took my tag (with my address and phone number on it) and put it on another bag. I refused that bag, obviously, but have never seen my bag since. Totally disappeared.

Don't fly Mexicana - it's a terrible airline, customer service is a disaster, and if you have a problem, God help you. You're screwed. Also, it's NOT cheaper... Just fly with someone else. Lots of carriers have problems, but Mexicana is just a disaster. Developing world quality airline. Sorry, but it's just terrible.

Oh, and Mexicana overbooked my flight back from Bogota to Mexico City. A nice woman gave up her seat for me because she knew I had a connection in Mexico City, but the other traveller behind me was left in Bogota crying. She missed her connection back to New York.

It's unusual that luggage is never found. That said, sorry it had to happen to you.

You mention 5/6 computers were turned off. How many agents working and how many customers were there? Also, books in their original version of paper will never go away. Don't know why this was added in the review.

Now the tag thing. Are you talking about your name tag that you filled out or the bagtag the agent placed on the bag at your origin city? If you're talking about your name tag (which I think you are) this would have to have been done at the time of check-in. Are you saying that someone removed it then and put it on another bag and that bag happened to also be going to Bogota and also got delayed and it was delivered to you or are you saying it was removed in Bogota and put on another bag that was delivered to you and your bag (the one the name tag was removed from) is sitting in Bogota? I'm confused.

Sucks about the bag, but every airline overbooks flights.

For the Judge - thanks for the comments. In response, there was ONE agent working, and I was one of 3 customers. You've said "books" never go away. These were falling-apart lined notebooks leftover from possibly 1986... (exaggerating, but these were hardly record books. they were like scrap paper bound together, full of stains, scribbled out sections...)

as for the tag... I don't know what happened. I put my name tag that I wrote out (with my address) on my bag and put it on the belt in my Canadian city. Next thing I hear, my mom is getting a piece of luggage with THAT same tag (she saw me write it and knows my writing) on someone else's luggage. You figure it out. It doesn't make sense.

REGARDLESS, Mexicana filed for Bankruptcy today so I'm satisfied that Mexicana's Karma points got too low in the bank! bahahahahaha!!
