Village Square Mobil Complaint - Village Square Mobil Monroe CT Windshield Fraud Scam

Review by carwreck on 2010-01-27
MONROE, CONNECTICUT -- Bought Gas at Mobil 405 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT
Gas attendant claimed he was washing my windshield as a "courtesy".
While washing with squeegee, he struck windshield with a sharp object in his other hand, that caused chip in windshield.
He then pretended to have found the chip in the windshield, and showed me the chip (the chip he had just done) and told me I needed a new windshield, and attempted to SCAM me to have my windshield replaced by him for a "special" price.

WHAT? are you kidding me? Did you call the police?

And did you call Mobil corporate?

You should have cracked his head open...then tell him you are a doctor and will give him a 'speical' price to fix his head!

DB, you are not being helpful.
Get the chip fixed or replace the glass and sue them for the cost.
I doubt if any cameras caught the act.

That's why I would have immediately called the police. I would have got in my car, locked the doors, and called hte police. I wouldnt have moved until the police came and explained what happened. That way the police could investigate what happened, spoke to the manager and gave you a police report. Then you contact mobile headquarters and explain what happened. If they do somehting, great. If they refuse, then you take them to small claims court.

In MA, which means probably also in CT, glass in covered under your basic insurance, and has no deductible, so just use it as an opportunity to get a shiny new windshield.

Ken, That doesn't make the situation right. If someone purposey vandalized someones property, then the police need to be involed. The insurance company shouldn't be the ones to foot the bill. Even if they did, why should and your insurance company be penalized? You take the chance of your insurance company raising your premium as well.

Well, I didn't read it as he did it purposely, I assume it was an accident. Beyond that, it doesn't matter if the police are called, OP will say he did it, he will say it was already there. There are no witnesses, so I doubt the police will even create a report. If there is no out of pocket for OP, it just doesn't seem like it is worth the stress.

You call the police and file a report and then take it to both party's insurance companies to see who will foot the bill. Is that what you are saying, Tenn?
The OP's might but if they don't it will end up in court no doubt.
Insurance Agent are we?

no no. Don;t work for an insurance company. I would have probably said a choice few words to the guy and called hte police anyway....Why do I want to hurt my good reputation with my insurance company for someone else's neglegence? It could cost you money in hte long run though, if your insurance company deems you a higher risk and increases your premium. If it was a mistake, then its a mistake. The attendant should have fessed up. If he would have done that, I would be more sympathetic towards him, as I wouldnt want him to lose his job over it. Maybe work out a deal with him or something. But if he clearly did it, and then tried to pawn it off on you, then I would have been pretty pissed.

Yeah, filing a shaky claim like that can be dicey but that is why we pay them.
I'd say to just fix it then sue and see what happens.

The police will be better than you in finding out if it was intentional.
