Geek Squad Complaint - They want your money, not your satisfaction
WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS -- My daughter's laptop power connection on the Toshiba laptop I bought at Best Buy broke/failed 3 weeks after the 1 yr warranty. I got no satisfaction in getting a reasonable cost approach to trying to fix the problem. The representative gave a heavy handed spiel that I should consider buying a new computer and extended coverage and that I would probably get a repair estimate that exceeds the value of the laptop. Further, they would repair everything that they deemed needed to be repaired even though it was working very well except for the power connection. I would also have to pay $100 to backup the hard drive since it could be very likely the data may be lost. I requested to not touch the hard drive but just fix the power connection by itself. They refused to do this, so I left letting them no they are there to maximize their revenue and not to help their customers. I told them I will not buy computer products or appliances from Best Buy again, and I won't.
It turns out the laptop problem is a big time known defect of Toshiba laptops and I am fixing the problem with some superglue to the plastic housing on the connector. I had help taking the unit apart. Please beware of Geek Squad scams to make you pay exorbitant prices unnecessarily.
