Priceline.com Complaint - CANCELLATIONS - BOGUS CANCELLATION FEE
I am stationed at Ft. Hood awaiting deployment to Iraq. We were given 4 days leave prior to deployment. I purchased an airline ticket thru Priceline to go home during that time. Three days later (3 weeks before the flight)I was told I would not deploy and the Army would send me back to my home station. I purchased the $16.00 "cancellation" insurance from Priceline. Today, I applied through American Airlines (as per instructed by Priceline) and was told the ticket is "non-refundable". I called Priceline and the VERY RUDE MAN said the cancellation insurance was for DEATH or ILLNESS ONLY! ...This is the statement on Priceline:
"Keep in mind that Priceline offers travel insurance protection in the event you run into unexpected (but covered) difficulties that may prevent you from traveling. Click here to learn more about the benefits of travel insurance". (After clicking): "Airline reservations may be restricted and requests to change or cancel reservations are often denied based on airline policy. However, with Travel Insurance provided by American Home Assurance Company, if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip for a covered reason, you will be reimbursed up to the total cost of your original reservation". Then there is a link to the Insurance Company which states:
"AIR COVERAGE, IF PURCHASED
SCHEDULE OF COVERAGES, SERVICES AND PREMIUM MAXIMUM BENEFIT PER INSURED, UP TO:
PART A - TRAVEL ARRANGEMENT PROTECTION
AIR TRIP CANCELLATION TOTAL COST OF ORIGINAL AIRLINE TICKET OR, IF CANCELLED OR EXCHANGED
So, If you do book through Priceline, the insurance is worthless! Also, the price was the EXACT same as on the AA website, which I would have used, BUT I WANTED THE INSURANCE IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENED - WHICH IS NOT UNUSUAL WITH THE GOV'T!
