Budget Rent-A-Car Complaint - Budget Rent-A-Car needs to improve their customer service!!!
PORTLAND, OREGON -- I rented a budget car from Portland Airport (PDX) on Friday January 22, 2010 for 1-day less than 24 hours. I use to rent from them all the time because of convenience and customer service, this time was a disaster, I got a white Chevy-cobalt (no complaint). I drove to my Aunts house in Gresham, OR which is about 15-20 miles from PDX. Parked in front of her residence but did not drive the entire time I was visiting with my family, as I was leaving for the airport on Saturday around 9PM for my red-eye flight back to Texas and the car was dead as a doornail, either dead battery or something else. Then while trying to start the car, the keys got stuck in the ignigtion, frustrated and panicked I called the roadside assistance toll-free number only to go through about 5-6 prompts before getting to speak to anyone. I filed a request/file for service with the operator and told her that I was going to attempt to jump-start the car with my families vehicle if that did not work I was going to call her back. It did not work because we could not find the battery, by then it was approaching 10PM and my red-eye was 11:50PM. Instead of calling back the toll-free number with 5-6 prompts I called the local Budget counter @ PDX, whoever answered the phone said: That is not our problem, you have to call back the roadside assistance number and tell them! The tone used was uncalled for, very un-sympathetic. I called them back and told them that my family was going to race me to the airport and where they could pick up their vehicle. I filed a customer-service complaint online on Monday January 25th and have YET to hear from them today is Tuesday February 2, 2010. I checked my CC bill online everyday for a charge and low and behold my $22.36 car rental was charged $40.47, I called the 800 number to complain about the entire rental and got Gene Mason who was the worst customer service person that I have had to deal with, he just exclaimed "what do you want me to do". I said I was being overcharged and wanted to know why...he made a big sigh and put me on hold for more than 5 minutes and said that I was charged a re-fueling charge and that he was going to credit back $17.77 put me on hold again and came back and said is there anything else I can help you with? I said I don't feel I should be charged for anything especially the way I was treated with customer service and inconvenience for the entire rental, he did not seem to care at all. I am still awaiting a reply from my first complaint filed via website on 1/22/10.
