Hollister/Abercrombie Complaint - Deceptive gift card promotion -- store won't resolve issue
CHICAGO RIDGE, ILLINOIS -- I shopped at Hollister for Christmas gifts. The store offered a promotion: a free $25 gift card with purchase. I qualified for the gift card and just learned, when I tried to use it, that the company zeroed out the balance on January 30, 2010. The sales associate I dealt with never told me the promotional gift card had an expiration date. Furthermore, nothing on the card or on my receipt indicated an expiration date. When I called to complain, I was told there was nothing they could do about it. The person I spoke to admitted that the company put nothing in writing or on the gift cards to notify customers of the expiration date. All of the merchandise I bought at the time (over $120 dollars worth) were Christmas gifts except for a bottle of $38 perfume, which I bought for my daughter's birthday this month. I will return the perfume and never shop at any Hollister or Abercrombie stores again. I have four daughters -- I hope the company thinks it was worth losing five future customers and a $38 dollar sale to save $25.
