Bass Pro Shop Complaint - Never go to the gun counter at ANY BASS PROSHOP/ OUTDOOR WOLD - GUN COUNTER

Complaint
Review by prof_washu on 2010-02-03
AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN -- First, I've never had good luck at any time going there. Last weekend was the 3rd strike.

The first bad time:
I am a gun collector, I collect vintage rifles and hand guns. I am not a gun nut, but a true collector. I have a old ww1 hand gun, in. 32. Its a semi-hard to find round, and lower power (but in ww1 was the standard). So, I ask the guy behind the counter, do you have. 32. He gives me this long song and dance, why I need to buy a new gun. I say, I collect guns for historical value, and I can't afford that one right now." He says, "Well then you know nothing about guns, and I can't sell you any ammo, please leave the counter." He starts to talk to the next guy. I tell him where to get off, and I am actually removed from the store, physically.

The second Bad time:
Every one gets a second chance, so I went back. To use their range. They have an indoor range. So I get my rifle checked in, the check my ammo. Then they say I can't have this because its army surplus. I say, "so?" they then say they have to keep it, per Michigan law." I said, I don't think so. I reach over the counter to get my ammo can back. And they physically push be back, and threaten to keep my rifle too.
I talk to the manager, and 2 hours later, they loose my ammo. I get "loud" and they remove me again.

Third time: last weekend.
There was an add they ad for vintage rifles. Good price too. I was willing to deal with the B. S. for the sale. So not only did they not have it. they called me stupid, for not seeing it was only at select stores. They told me, I was obviously too stupid to pay attention to detail, and would not sell it to me anyway.... and, you (me) was taking up my (his) time." I went to the manager. He said, I agree with Ross, get out of my store!" Now, that's for the Great Lakes Mall store. In Auburn Hills, Michigan. Go to Dunham's... they really are better all ways around!! Also, they have a better selection of ammo too!! I am a major fan of Dunnham's!

I, as a responsible collector of firearms, ain't gonna start on this one.

Sounds like the other side of the story is missing on this one. I can't imagine a store clerk or manager talking to a customer like that for no reason. I also cannot see why someone would have to be physically removed from a store if they were not acting badly.

There is probably a lot left out of this story. I would love to know what the OP said to the clerk and manager to get the responses that he got.

agreed. As far as them trying to grab your gun, obviously you brought in an illegal weapon, as far as they were concerned. My biggest question is.....if are having this much of a problem and going through so much trouble with these people, WHY do you keep going back? If I had an altercation with an associate at a store, I would be sure to never go back to that store again.

Well as to number 2, it probably is illegal for anyone to have army ammo not in military and not have the proper permission. That is why it was confiscated as per Michigan state law. Where did you get it? Here in Tn, at Ft Campbell you can not remove ammo from the base. Period.

You are lucky you are not on someone's watch list.

The fact that you were removed from the store 3 times tells me you were far from a perfect angel. I would bet you anything they never used the word "stupid" to describe you.

"I reach over the counter to get my ammo can back."

Rule #1 in any range... don't reach for anything they tell you not to touch.

It's a gun range, they WILL physically push you.

I would suggest reviewing local laws before proceeding.

Hell even Gunny R. Lee Ermey advocates not breaking the law when it comes to firearms. And he hates some of the laws in California (i.e. the same applicaiton before EVERY gun purchase, even if you have a giant collection already, and only one per month)... but he states to obey the laws.

a marine i use to talk to told me how he was working the armory at a range when an officer tried to turn his firearm in... MUZZLE FIRST. He grabbed the man's wrist and disarmed him hard and fast - might have even broken some bones.

But hey the officer was being an idiot.

You mess around on a gun range and, well that's what happens to you. It's not the place to be throwing an ego around. The ONLY ego allowed is that of the Range Master.
