Evercom/Correctional Billing Complaint - Rip Off (I second that)

Review by JayBoo on 2010-02-10
I can second that these people are rip offs. I sent in money via mail and it never got added to my account, when calling them no one would/could assist. My second encounter with them happened when I was told if a call drops and it doesn't reach at least the 3-5min mark to call and they would take the phone call off. I've called them and this happened once and when calling back I then was told that they don't do that and I was then charged for a call that I only was able to say hello then call was dropped. I think that all jails and prisons are just big money businesses and we're paying ridiculous amounts of money to talk to our love ones. Someone needs to regulate them better because these people are doing what they want, and it's only because people incarcerated are considered the lowest in society and I doubt if anything will be done. The posting that I'm commenting on was made back in 2007, and it's now 2010.

I guess I can/will say for those getting screwed/robbed without a gun by this company will continue to be victims.

It's actually not an outrageous amount. The amount these companies charge is exactly in line with collect call charges, which is what correctional facilities used before these companies came along. They've just institutionalized collect calling.

The bad service is another issue. No one deserves bad service.
