CUSTOMER INFORMATION:

Kathryn United States 04009

COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION INFORMATION:

AT&T
1200 Corporate Drive
Birmingham, AL United States 35242
(205)980-4000

COMPLAINT INFORMATION:

Complaint #: 1662723
Complaint Type: General Complaint (not a car maker)
Date Received: 9/24/2004
Primary Complaint Classification: Delivery Issues
Secondary Complaint Classification: Selling Practices
Complaint:
In a nutshell.... purchased a cordless phone answering machine with an
extra
unit which could be plugged in elsewhere without the need of a phone
line
nearby in June. Didn't hear from them for over a month. In July, I
contacted
AT&T via email (see attached correspondance) and was told to contact
another
company. Replied that since I purchased the phone from AT&T, and it was
an
AT&T phone, and since AT&T was billing me and getting my money, THEY
should
deal with it. After many emails, they finally said it was shipping (Late
July.) Got the phone two WEEKS after they claim it was shipped, sans
additional unit. Contacted AT&T... same runaround. Got my bill for the
first
of 4 payments of $44 + dollars. Called several times, only to be told
(now
note this, as I called the 800 number listed on my bill for CUSTOMER
SERVICE,) that they couldn't help me. Apparently, when you call that
CUSTOMER SERVICE number, you get a SALES DEPARTMENT. I not so nicely
told
the poor fellow who got stuck with my call that I did not want, now or
ever,
ANY sales "help" from their company. Cancelled my long distance service
and
signed up with Verizon that day. Now we are into late August. Finally
got
disgusted and called the company that shipped me the phone two weeks
ago,
complaining about the incomplete order. To my surprise, they simply
offered
to pick it up. Said they would send a packing list. That was two weeks
ago.
Last week, I start getting calls from AT&T's collection department
threatening to cancel my long distance if I didn't pay.

Desired Settlement: Other (requires explanation)
Settlement Explanation:
Requesting that AT&T, as the company I purchased the phone through and
the
company which is attempting to bill me, arrange for pickup of the phone
as
their subsidiary appears to have the same level of customer service as
they
do, and stop asking me to spend hours on hold trying to return a cheap
incomplete phone shipment which AT&T now has the nerve to be billing me
for.
