My husband and I got the worse T-bone steak ever on Valentine's day. It was so tough you couldn't eat it.

Ick. Tough steak is the worst! Hopefully you brought it to the attention of the Manager so that s/he could take the appropriate action.

On a different note, I ate at Outback on Valentine's day and had a simply delicious fillet. Out of habit, I asked for some A-1, but when they brought it to the table, I couldn't even think about using it - the steak was just too good by itself. When I had one or two bites left on my plate, I decided I was too full to continue and had them remove the plate. Within a minute, I wished I had not done that, so I could eat those last bites. Just too good.

And on top of that, when we arrived, we were told it would take an hour to be seated - only took about 20 minutes. And the bread and the wedge salad and the potato - simply a very good meal. Friendly wait person - asked us how we were doing just often enough without being too intrusive nor leaving us wondering where he was.

I can't wait to go back. Maybe I'll try the T-bone....

The first time I visited Outback, I had a very bad steak. But the rest of the meal was so good that I left satisfied. I've been once more, to a different location, and again had an inferior steak. I will still go again, and give them another chance, based on their reputation. But if I get a bad steak for the 3rd straight time, it could be bye-bye for me.

What doneness did you specify? If it's anything but medium rare - medium you run the risk of it being over done. ALWAYS ask for a steak to be somewhat rare and you won't be disappointed. Even if they overcook a rare it's not going to be well done. Also if you ordered the steak medium well to well done well, you know nothing about steak.

I usually ask for "very rare - just kill the bacteria"

seems to work for me =)
