HIP Insurance company Complaint - Discriminatory Treatment of Diabetic Patients

Review by mzol on 2010-02-17
In the year 2009, I received a prescription medication JANUMET 90 day supply by mail from Medco in September and in November. Each time I’ve been charged $45 copayment.

However according to the Medical Plan Design, copayment for a brand medication for the 90-day supply must be $30.

The HIP representative said to me that medications for diabetics has a copayment $45 for 90-day supply according to the HIP policy.

In response to my email HIP replied:
Diabetic medication is not subject to the reduce rate for mail order that is only for prescription drugs.

This is in fact discriminatory treatment of diabetic patients.
