Chase Manhattan Bank Complaint - Theft - personal banking services
OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON -- My wife and I have held an account with WAMU, now Chase for about ten years. I have really valued their service. Everything we've received from them in banking services (until recently) has been virtually free, so it's very disappointing to write this review.
We maintain balances exceeding $10,000 in checking and savings (each), so I've never bothered to be concerned about bank fees. I admit negligence on not analyzing my statements more closely. Recently I had noticed Chase had been assessing a $20 service fee on our SAVINGS account. They had done it in five months in a row, so I'm out $100. I went to the bank and the banker told me it was a computer mistake and that he would fix it. As for the $100, I'd get $40 back, because the other $60 was taken over 60 days ago. Apparently, if they steal your money, you have 60 days to take action, or it's all theirs. I asked the gentleman if that was the best he could do, which he affirmed, he just couldn't return the other $60.
I returned a few hours later to the bank, after I had picked out a new bank. When the banker discovered I was closing my accounts, he asked if I would like to talk to the manager to get the other $60 that was taken from me. Apparently, it wasn't the 'best he could do' when he told me he couldn't return all of my money. Sadly, my decision had been made. I don't trust Chase bank with my personal accounts. Not to mention, when a bank accidentally takes your money, they need to return ALL of it, without you making threats.
