Expedia.com Compliment - NEVER Use Expedia!!
In January 2010, my youngest son invited us (my husband and me) to St. Kitts to meet his fiance. My kids insisted we use Expedia rather than our normal travel agent b/c it was cheaper and easier. NEVER AGAIN!! We booked the trip on Expedia and 4 days before we were to leave, I received a call from someone at Expedia that barely spoke English and was extremely difficult to understand. I was told that Delta had canceled our return flight and did I want to cancel my trip. I asked if there was another flight. She didn't understand and just repeated that our return flight had been canceled. I asked about a different airline. Again, just repeated that our return flight had been canceled, did we want to cancel our trip (I was also told it would take 3 months to get a refund). Unsure what else there was to say, I said yes, cancel our trip. Furious, my son called Expedia. They were unwilling to use a different airline to fulfill our booked trip (other airlines DID have flights returning to the US from St. Kitts). He, however, was told 3 months was ridiculous and our credit card would be credited immediately. He then called American Airlines who offered a similar vacation package (same hotel, same dates, similar price - less than $100 difference, which I thought was pretty good for 3 days notice). We are now being told by Expedia that they "are sorry for the inconvenience" but my credit card will not be credited for 3 months. Seriously?!?!?!? Over $2000 for a trip THEY canceled and refused to offer any alternatives on. The trip is on my credit card, I think they should pay the finance charges. My husband and son had both already taken time off of work, my son had booked his trip (he lives in a different city), we could either book our trip some other way or wait until our next vacation rolled around. I will NEVER use Expedia again and neither will either of our sons or our daughter. I am so tired of hearing "I am sorry for your inconvenience" - I guess they aren't sorry enough to do anything about it!
