Expedia.com Complaint - Expedia's "Special Offers" - BEWARE
I booked a trip to New Orleans, LA from 2/17/10 thru 2/20/10 at the Ambassador Hotel in downtown New Orleans. I had plenty of hotels to choose from. Some had better rates than the Ambassador, however Expedia was promoting a "Special Offer" of free valet parking at this hotel. Knowing that parking for the day downtown is around $30 per day, I considered that savings to actually surpass the other comparable hotels that weren't offering this type of special. Well, we valet parked for three straight days at the hotel under the assumption that our valet parking was complimentary. Upon checkout, however, I found 3 days' worth of parking charges totaling $87 (3 days @ $29 per day). I disputed this with the front desk clerk, and she informed me that the itinerary must not have included this as the offers are pre-loaded packages and would have shown up in the booking. She stated that Expedia would have to call to resolve this matter and that I should call them with this problem. I did. They told me they were sorry for my inconvenience but they could not refund my parking charges as they were directly charged to me by the hotel. I requested that Expedia call the hotel about refunding my parking. She informed me that this was an Expedia special offer and that they couldn't request refund from the hotel. I then went further to say to her that if it was Expedia's offer and Expedia screwed up the reservation, why couldn't they process a refund??? She instead offered me a $50 future reservation coupon....WOW. That made me so angry I thought I might throw the phone. I basically told her in no uncertain terms that if that is the best they can do, I don't need the coupon because I won't be booking with them ever again. She then told me that I might do better to speak to her supervisor, and she also told me that they were having a high call volume in their customer service department at the time (wonder why?). She asked if I wanted to wait for a supervisor, I said yes. After 20 Minutes of waiting for a supervisor, I hung up the phone. I had already waited 30 minutes for her to take my call and another 15 minutes trying to get satisfaction from her. I am taking the high road and just writing off my $87 in parking as a lesson learned. What lesson? NEVER EVER BOOK AGAIN WITH EXPEDIA!!!!!!!!!!
