Get ready for a lot of aggravation!!! - Complaint
Review by Dontflyspirit on 2010-02-23
I tried to save a few bucks and all I got was aggravation! I will preface this rant by accepting that it is a difficult time for the AIRLINES. It is also a difficult time for it's customers or they would not be using this midget type airline. First of all the SEATS are made for children or awfully small adults. So, we made reservations well in advance. They did not say we could make seat assignments 90 days in advance. So we went to the airport early to get seat assignments. There were two left and we wound up in the last row! Then the agents tells us that if we checked out bags online we would have paid $19 dollars instead of $25. You live and you learn! The thing that got me was the way he said it, like we fooled you guys!! So, ok, we did the best we could and did not get angry, we wanted to keep positive and have a good time. So we ordered a coke, and find it cost $2.50 for a can ! Return trip was worse since we spent our last morning trying to get our seat assignment instead of doing one last thing we had planned to do! We thought we at least knew what to do this time, we would go ONLINE. Well, the software ask you for your last name and your LOCATOR NUMBER. We did not know what a locator # was but it said it was included in the email confirmation. We tried every # we could find on the confirmation and finally the computer said you cannot get online since you have tried too many times!
So, we called and find that we are going to be charged for the seats we already paid for. So, no choice, we paid again! We put our bags on the scale and one was over 2 lbs. They wanted to charge us again for that, so we just shifted some stuff to the online bag...what difference!! Even the airline employee's were angry with their employer and were RANTING ALSO! I know that many other airlines also are doing things like this and we the (Cattle) need to inform them that this is enough. It's enough that we have to do the SECURITY THING and then put up with all the AIRLINE BULL....!

Someone has to sit in the last row. Are you better than everyone else and think it shouldn't be you? You're not! Customers rent a seat (not a specific one), even pre-reserve seats are requests that can be changed at any time.

There are few things in life I detest more than flying commercial these days. It just sucks rocks. Myself I fly with a xanax buzz and a diminished sense of my humanity until I get to my destination. As far as the back seat I would have traded with you. It's not bad. You're close to the head. Not much ambiance but every once in awhile you get some interesting smells.

jtf - very good point.

apparently the OP is better than the other passengers.

He is too good for the last seat, so give it to the other people who aren't as good as he is?

I don't believe the OP was implying that he was better than anybody else. I don't know where ya'll got that from. I happen not to like the last row either. It doesn't make me better than anyone else just because I don't like sitting in the last row. Just to mirror his point, the paying public are exactly like cattle!! Flying now is just a means to get from point A to point B. It makes no difference what you like or don't like. You get what they give you and you shut up about it. And lastly, be grateful they allow you on their airplane...Sarcastic...maybe. Truth, absolutely!!

Within your review, Dontflyspirit you shared your return flight experience. I don’t understand the part:

We did not know what a locator # was but it said it was included in the email confirmation. We tried every # we could find on the confirmation and finally the computer said you cannot get online since you have tried too many times! So, we called and find that we are going to be charged for the seats we already paid for. So, no choice, we paid again!

What did you pay again for? On another note, many who fly frequently have learned through trial, error and advice from others how to avoid some of this foolishness. Many times it's still luck of the draw. You never know.

We had better get used to this a la carte pricing for airline travel. EasyJet and RyanAir have retrained the European flying public to expect this level of service and we are just late adopting some of their rules.

The good news is if you want to fly from Chicago to Miami for $79 you will still be able to - but it will be in whatever seat the airline sticks you in and with just what luggage you can carry with you. If you want or need a higher level of service, expect to pay for anything beyond the most basic air travel.

Remember PeoplExpress in the 80's? They didn't even have a reservation system - you simply walked up, bought a seat if it was available and got on the plane. They charged for checked bags and they even charged 50 cents for a cup of coffee. And yet they filled their planes for several years. People will sacrifice service for price.
