Dish Network Complaint - Surprise charges
I am a customer of Dish Network since last few years. I wanted to add a receiver for the bedroom and thus called Dish Network. The operator told me that I qualify for an upgrade to a dual-room receiver and thus I ordered one but I did clarify that there will not be any extra cost. The installer simply came and unhooked my old receiver (Solo-311) and replaced it with a dual DVR receiver and gave me two remotes (one for familyroom TV and another for bedroom TV). Next bill I find a $95 charge itemized as "Technician Visit" and a DVR service fees of $6.
I call them and told them that this was clearly a free upgrade of receiver. The operator agrees to remove $95. The second part was that I *never* ordered or expected a DVR dual-receiver. I simply wanted a dual-room receiver and not a DVR dual-room receiver with $6 per month service charges. I asked the operator to replace the DVR with a simple dual-room receiver (Duo-322) but the operator told me that it will cost me a charge of $95 for the technician to visit. So, I gave an option to mail the receiver. The operator replied that you will not be now eligible for a free upgrade since you already got one chance eventhough you are returning back the new receiver. I asked for the option of cancelling my service. I was told that you have to stick for another 12 months since you upgraded the receiver otherwise pay a penalty of $420.
My point is that I was not told about the DVR service monthly fees. Now I do not have any other option except to have the service for another 12 months considering the $420 penalty. I will be cancelling the service after 12 months!
