Westin Complaint - Cancellation policy

Complaint
Review by KZ on 2010-02-27
I had booked a trip for my husband as a Christmas present from Feb 11th through Feb 15th to Berlin Germany with a stay at the Weston Grand Berlin hotel. I knew it was a non-refundable rate! My trip was cancelled by Continental Airlines due to a blizzard. All Continental flights from Newark, NJ were cancelled. Through no fault of mine, I /we could not get to Berlin. Continental airlines refunded the money for the airline tickets which were "non-refundable". The Weston Hotel charged my credit card. They have refused to reconsider...Starwood, their parent company has been useless in resolving this as well. How did they expect me to get to Germany...swim? All consumers beware of Weston Hotels!!!

You mention that the flight cancellation was no fault of your own, but I don't see how it is the fault of the hotel either. They gave you a discounted rate on the basis that you could not cancel for any reason, including a storm 4,000 miles away.

Winter snow storms and summer hurricanes are things you need to take into consideration when booking nonrefundable travel.

instead of warning about Westin you should be warning people that perhaps buying non refundable 'anything' where you have to arrive from a long distance is foolish especially flying in winter.

i wonder if you can sell the reservation on ebay..

since the date has passed, and the company refuses to refund, will they at least give you a credit for a future stay? or was the room purchased instead of reserved?

oo i guess the ebay sale is out of the question then. not without a TARDIS at least...

madconsumer - the nonrefundable rates are prepay only from what I have seen.

It was not Westin's fault either and your rate was "non-refundable". Just because Continental broke their rule, doesn't mean Westin has to.
