Dell Computer Corporation Complaint - Dell quality of products and customer services is poor
TEXAS -- I ordered a Dell Vostro 220 with Windows 7 on December 4 but I did not receive the computer until Dec 17. After various software that I moved from my other computer failed, I decided to use the restore software to restore to the previous date. Unfortunately, Win 7 restore failed. I called Dell's tech service and was told that I have to pay to get help from Microsoft. I used the CD of Win 7 OS that Dell provided to restore my computer to the original factory setting but it also failed because the system asked me to insert the driver CD but I could not do it because the CD drive locked the drive bay and I could not take out the OS CD to insert the Driver CD. So my Dell Vostro came without any restore capability. I called Dell again on Jan 5, 2010 and after half an hour running around with diagnostics from a tech service representative that has very little knowledge, I asked to return my computer for restoring my hard drive. To my dismay, the representative told me that my 30 day return window was passed because Dell counts the 30 days from the day of order, not from the day of receipt of merchandise like other stores. Dell blames Microsoft for Win 7 defects and refused to fix the computer for customers. Companies such as Ford and Toyota would take responsibility to recall and fix components that failed in their cars regardless of who made the components for them. Dell has incompetent technical service workers, poor customer service, poor quality, unethical practice of counting the day of return for repair and should not be in business.
The best way to buy computers/electronics is at reputable physical stores such as Walmart, Target because consumers can return defective goods within 90 days no questions asked. Never buy online from Dell. Consumer Reports misled me about the quality rating at Dell it published. I regret that I did nor read the opinions on this forum before buying a Dell computer last December. Now I do not want to see others to make the same mistake.
