My3cents.com - Can I get a refund on a room that was mistakenly booked as a non-refundable room?

Review by Jannell on 2010-03-03
My assistant booked a room for me at the Hyatt. 4 hours after the hotel was booked I tried to cancel the reservation and I was told that this is a prepaid non refundable room. The reservation was booked for 6 nights! I received an email back from customer service asking me if I wanted to change the dates. NO. I just want the refund. Can I get refunded for this error? What are my options?

Important question, was the room booked direct with the hotel, or was it booked via a travel agent or online booking agent?

In a word...no.
Even diamond members are subject to the same rules. For comparable comfort level I'd in the future choose Starwood and bank the credit days - more choices with Starwood vs Hyatt.

It was booked directly through the hotel's site.

If its non-refundable, then no. This was no mistake, you just claim it is because you want them to break their rule for you.

No. And looks like you need to find a new assistant.
