Most online auctions allow you to place a max bid and realize the savings as the other bidders fall below your max at the close of the bid. For instance If you place a bid for $5000 as a max and the other bidders only bid up to $4000 then you get the item for the $4000 amount and you save $1000 from what you were willing to pay since nobody else was willing to pay above the $4000 mark.
Ridesafely does not work that way. Ridesafely conducts auctions without any ownership of the item being sold. They simply get everyone to bid on a listing of items which they plan to bid on at a future date. They also bid up to an amount which guarantees Ridesafely a profit. So in the above example, Ridesafely takes your $5000 bid and either buys the item for $4000 and charges you $5000 or declines to offer up the $4000 amount if they don't think $1000 is enough profit.
Many of the items Ridesafely is trying to sell us can be found on the following site (http://home. copart.com/c2/copart_home_page.html) you will need to use a broker in order to buy here but you'll find this much more competitive place and better people to deal with.
