Overstock,com Complaint - Hidden Depths
Based on internet purchases over the years from online companys both great and small. I have experience and knowledge of carriage costs. So on my first purchase of a DVD from Overstock.com I expected as an international purchaser to pay a reasonable rate for transferring 150grams from USA to UK. I allow for the fact that some large companies charge double the cost (For handling they claim) fair enough. So at insured trackable small packet rate £10.00 would be generously in favour of overstock.com however now you discover, just after you have committed to pay that over £15.00 is bejng charged. When (as you are online ) you see this, you immediately perform a live query. You request (a) immediate cancellation (b) Alternative cheaper shipping arrangement. (Their summary of agent Benny was:
You are told "NO". The reason given is that their systems are so organised that it was too late to change!!! People, we are talking minutes here, minutes after the initial order. You state that this is not in accordance with law on distance shopping. They circumnavigated this point rather cleverly by sending an email to me formatted in such a way that neither gmail and Outlook could use their reply field. The beginning of their reply was thus:
"Thank you for contacting Overstock.com Customer Care. Please review our response to your inquiry in the "Discussion" section below.
We believe that we have resolved your inquiry. However, if it has not been answered to your satisfaction, you may reopen it within the next 7 days.

Clicking reply in either email programs does not give you access to the reply field in the email.
They have since said they would allow me to send back the DVD at their cost!
What hypocrites, the DVD is wanted but not their extortionate carriage rates which they have already pocketed and were in no way recoverable.
So my advice is do not deal with this extortionate company.
