Comcast Corporation Complaint - False representation and information
The location Comcast Cable service is 6805 Southpoint Parkway, Jacksonville, Fl 32216.
On May 15, 2004, I moved on Naval Station Mayport in the Bachelor's Enlisted Quarters. I am in the military and had recently transferred from Yokosuka, Japan. In September 2003, I became stationed in Jacksonville, Florida and obtained an apartment off base within the civilian community and I also had Comcast cable at the time, basic service only which I was paying a monthly fee.
When I obtained a room on base as a Resident Advisor, I was told by a person by the name of Charles, with the Comcast Representative code of CA3 that basic service was free and additional programs were paid by the customer. I always had basic service so I didn't feel a need for additional channels so I told him that I wanted basic service only. A service truck came out to my room and connected the lines and the person that was supposed to come out stated that he didn't know if I had to pay a connect fee or not, so I told him that due to my work hours I would not be able to be there but the BEQ Manager would let him in and I would leave a check on the desk for $24.99 if there was a service connect charge. The service man did not take the check.
During this whole time I have never received a bill, a phone call or anything notifying me of a bill. In the month of July, I moved to a building next door, called and transferred my Cable, a person by the name of Dee Dee transferred the service and there was still no mention of the bill. She again like the service person was unsure about the transfer connect fee but again, there was no charge.
However, on 7 Oct 2004, I came to my room, turned on the television and there was only snow and when I contacted Comcast about it, a manager by the name of Marvin, was very rude and stated to me that he didn't understand why I thought the cable was "free". Again, I told him that his service person told me that the "basic" service was free because I was living in military quarters and additional programs cost. Marvin also told me that the total bill was $365.00 which included late charges, rollover fees for continuing the service (even thought no one contacted me or received my permission to "rollover" the fees) and 6% charge on the balance monthly. When I asked him why didn't someone call and he stated that Comcast do not make calls and I also asked him why I never received a bill and he said that they were sending the bill to the building number which is not an address because military members do not receive mail at the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters but at their work duty stations. He stated that the bill never came back so they assumed I was getting the bill. However, there was never an address obtained for billing because their Comcast representative told me there was no charge for basic cable.
Marvin, the manager, stated that I have to contact Bevins Thomas, who was the complaint person and when I did, again, there was very rude reception about the whole situation and no responsibility taken in regards to their representative that told me this. Ms. Bevin Thomas gave me the number of her Executive Manager, Anita Jones, who just refused to answer the phone and/or return my phone calls. Afterwards, I spoke to the attorneys that I work with and one of them tried to contact them regarding the bill and neither Ms.
Bevin Thomas or Ms. Anita Jones would respond to the phone calls.
I next went to the Comcast web site and was referred to their Executive Group Headquarters and I talked to Cynthia Asbury in the Corporate Office of Executive Support. She told me that someone would contact me in 24 hours regarding the issue and someone did, Ms. Bevin Thomas, who was still stating the same thing as she was before and refusing to listen to anything that I had to say and said that I need to pay the bill and that was it.
There was no compromise regarding the bill whatsoever so I am seeking advice and assistance in other consumer arenas. I am a legalman/court reporter and I have never seen such a total disregard for the customer and consumer services/rights.
