American Airlines Complaint - American Airlines Vacation from HELL!!!
FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- In September 2009, my husband and I were making a very short trip to London for business and to attend a wedding. I bought the tickets from DFW - LHR on American Airline. Although my travel miles is on Northwest, I picked AA because I could buy the ticket and stay in the same hotel booking through AA Vacations. I had only I vacation day so it had to be a 4 day trip for me. I decide to buy trip insurance with the ticket and paid an extra $216 or so dollars for this. There was a delay getting out of work on Thursday because of an unexpected but urgent meeting. we rushed to the airport and arrived with 58 minutes to our departure time. No AA staff will listen to us asking us to be in the line to be waited on. With 25 minutes before our plane departed, it was my turn to be served. The lady at the counter will not put us on the next flight because our ticket was bought on AA vacations, she suggested we called them, we were held on hold for 37 minutes before we spoke to an offical. The lady informed me she was sorry but although I had bought travel insurance, I had to cough up $300 to change my flight. The travel insurance was no longer valid because our flight had departed by the time she was speaking to me. I explained that we had been in the airport for 58 minutes waiting to be served. Too bad she said, I had the option of choosing to cancel the trip and be refunded $1200 out of $2187 dollars we paid.( $987 loss)!!! or pay additional $300 to have the flight re booked for the next day. Thus we arrived in London on Saturday Sept 12, and left on Monday Sept 14. A harrowing jet lag experience and a bitter one indeed.
Whatever you do, don't buy AA vacations travel insurance. It is a FRAUD.!!
