DirecTV Inc Complaint - Direct TV's Unethical Business Practices
I had Direct TV for a couple of years, then moved out of state for one year and had to cancel my service, no problems. Then in 2009 I moved back to Pennsylvania and had my service re-instated. This year, I've suffered financial difficulties due to a mountain of medical bills which my medical insurance did not cover. So I decided to cancel my Direct TV service (along with other services) while still in good standing ( i.e. up-to-date with my payments). I called Direct TV, cancelled and told them why, they said that despite the fact that I had had the service for more than a year I owed them $220 in cancellation fees because I had a DVR which I was required to keep for 2 years. The representative said I signed a contract, I disputed that fact and asked for a copy. He stated the didn't have but gave me a website I could request copy. I did. I received a call today stating that perhaps I didn't sign a contract but they did mail me a letter after service was requested stating the terms of the agreement, which was a 2 years contract. I stated I never received the letter, they disagreed. I was told that they had my credit card number and would just issue the $220 charge against my credit card. Then my problem would be between me and my credit card company. What a sorry business!!!
