Perkins Compliment - US Flag flown in *pristine* condition!

Review by PepperElf on 2010-03-19
HAMBURG -- Every so often my parents go out for breakfast in the morning, and one of the places they go to sometimes is Perkins.

We happened to be driving by it today and Dad commented on how good their flag always looks. I leaned over to look out the window to see what he was talking about. We both served in the Navy - Dad in WW2 and myself just recently.... so, how well a store or restaurant respects the flag is something we notice.

The image I found on google maps doesn't do it justice. While other establishments have small, often ratty-looking flags, theirs looks fresh and new. The colors were bright and vibrant and there was no sign of wear. Considering how windy this area is (very!), keeping the national ensign in such pristine condition is not an easy task.

Bravo Zulu!

Good review Peps. On a different note, I hate when I see a flag flown at night with no light on it. That's disrespectful.

I agree, yaya. People or businesses shouldn't just have a flag to make themselves look good. They should make the flag look good and follow the rules. I know flags take a lot of abuse out in the elements, but if you can't fly one properly and respectfully or can't maintain it, then just don't have one at all.

Great review, Pepper.

Very nice review, you're right, it isn't tattered or anything. You might like this one car dealership I see every day on the highway to school. The flag is HUGE, noticeable while driving by, and pristine.

the one in the pic might be outdated tho. cos the one i saw today looked a bit bigger. but still in the same condition.

and yeah - i know about the lights. when we were growing up dad purposefully put the flagpole beneath the streetlight cos that count's as having a light on it. these days he has a smaller one on a railing post and brings it in when it gets dark.

I know that the Van Devere used car lot at I-77 and Arlington Road in Akron flys a HUGE American flag. I assume other car dealers, mainly those that deal with domestic brands, do so as well.

Great review, Pepper, and thank you and your dad for your service. You might also pass the word on that if your flag is getting tattered and ratty looking, take it to any VFW post for proper disposal. They do a good job of disposing of weather-beaten flags honorably.

Dad usually brings his retired flags to the American Legion; they also handle flag disposal as well. I currently don't have any ... my flag is a little one stuck in the potted plant on my deck (lol). but I'll make sure it's looking good when i go home

On holidays where the flag is flown, the local Boy Scouts here in Gilbert line the main streets in the neighborhood with flags. You can also ask them to put a flag in your front yard on these days. They come back at sundown and take the flags down. Its a great service they offer

YES GN it is Van Devere! I forgot the name. That flag is like ridiculously huge and in great shape.
