Lone Star Chevrolet Complaint - Deceptive Practices on holding vehicles

Review by Houredhed on 2010-03-22
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I made a deal on a new car at Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston. I told them I had to wait for a check from my 401K loan, so they told me they would hold the car with a $500 deposit. They then called me 4 days later and said they would sell the car, if I did not come and get it that night. I had just driven by and told the salesman the night before, I had the check, but the bank had put a hold on it. He told me to come on and bring a personal check. When I got there, they refused to take the check and refused to give my deposit back. They had sold the car to someone else, and kept my deposit, even though I had the funds and was ready to purchase the car.
Company Response on 04/07/2010:
This customer was given a 100% refund by the General manager plus an extra $100.
The customer did an update recently on the BBB site.
We remain the #1 Volume Chevy store in Houston and are proud to be the GM Dealer of the Year 9 years and counting!

What a terrible way to treat a customer, and I'm sure they lost your business for life. It seems like you indeed had a contract with them when they took your $500 hold. The same would hold true for providing earnest money on a house but it's sold to someone else. I'd fight this plus tell all your friends how they conduct business.
