American Airlines Complaint - Flight cancellation - American Airlines
My husband and I were suppose to flight from Boston through Miami to Rio de Janero for our vacation on 3/12/10. When we arrived at airport, we were told the flight to Miami has been cancelled due to the weather condition in Miami and the only option offered to us at that point was to take a U.S. airway flight from Boston-New York La Guadia at noon on 3/13/10 and we will have to take a cab to JFK to catch the 9:55pm flight from JFK to Rio.... At that time, they already knew a storm is coming up to the Northeast. But they still sent us to NYC. So we changed our ticket and went home at that night. We took the flight to La Guadia the next day and were expecting to still be able to go to Brazil (although we've already missed our first Brazilian domestic flight from Rio to the Iguazu waterfall). The weather was horrible in NYC that day and all the flights, including ours, were delayed to next morning. At that point, we were exhausted and so frustrated (losing two days of our vacation and missed all the domestic flights we've booked inside Brazil) so we decided to cancel the whole vacation. We called AA and were told that we can get a partial refund (maybe in the lower 500 for each of us, the original ticket from Boston-Rio was 700 something, because they want to deduct the part from Boston to NYC). We had no other choice. One week later, we received the refund on our credit card--- they returned us 200 each.... meaning, not only have they caused us a huge emotional(cancelling a trip planned for three months) and financial damage (Brazil domestic flight costs $500 for each of us), they want to charge $500 each for shipping us from Boston-New York!!!!! This is just unacceptable. If I eventually cannot get my money back, at least one lesson I learned here: Never ever take AA again! They are the worst of the dying American airline industry!
