AMG Homes Complaint - Beware AMG home buyers in Illinois

Review by needsrespect on 2010-03-24
LILY LAKE, IL -- We were interested in a property in Minooka, IL by AMG Homes. We were dealing with the builder, Chad Gunderson. He told us not to use a Realtor if we wanted to come in at the better price. So dumb us, we didn't. We made an offer of $333,000 (which he accepted). We then picked up the contract to look it over and gave him a check (earnest money) for $5,000. We were ready to close immediately. The very next morning he calls my fiance and says "sorry, someone else has a higher bid today and they are signing the contract now". Does not allow us to counter offer and says there is nothing more we can do to obtain the property. Don't forget they had already accepted our offer and we gave them earnest money. I sent him an email explaining how upset I was with their dirty and immoral business practices and his response was...."All of the other three bidders also put in checks...I am sorry that you did not procure the property with your bid. You, and another party offered slightly less overall value than the prevailing Buyer. Regardless of the outcome, a couple of bidders were going to be disappointed. Sincerely,

Chad Gunderson

Great customer service as well as and trust and business practice. Thanks AMG Homes! They were playing all three of us. They took earnest money from all three of us???? Really!

Here's some feedback from our AMG built home, purchased new by us in 2005, just 6 years ago:

Roof leaks in 5 places
Concrete driveway and sidewalk are crumbling, and falling apart
Basement Concrete floor has numerous 1/2 inch wide cracks
75% of the interior doors have fallen off the hinges, screws cannot be tightened.
Windows leak during rain storms.
Oak flooring has wide gaps and "Plastic wood" has fallen out where installer did shoddy work.
Gutters are falling off, and leak.
Foundation leaks very badly where the steel beam contacts the base.

We had the house built by AMG, and ewhen we submitted a "Punchlist", the reply was "no way" and that if we didn't want the house, there were people in line that would by it. As we had already sold our previous home, and were staying at a Hotel, we didn't have much of a choice, which Chad knew.

My advice? Never even THINK of purchasing a home from these amateurs. By from Professionals, and watch for scams.
