AT&T DSL Service Class Action Settlement
I got a postcard today, announcing that I am eligible for a payment from the Settlement. AT&T's records showed the speed of the DSL service was limited to a rate below the maximum rate of the plan.
Settlement comes out to $2.90 per month of my service. Ok...I filed my claim for a check to be sent to me when it all gets settled and done...I had the option to have it credited to my bill, but I want the check.
Anyway...here is the warning for those who have AT&T DSL Service....
I got that postcard in the mail today and I also got my Phone/Internet bill. I noticed my Internet service increased by $3.00 from last month's billing.
I called to find out why, the CSR said, "Oh, we had several customers call us about that ERROR, I will have it credited from your bill"...
Hmmmm...they have a proposed settlement for $2.90 a month and at the same time, my bill increases at $3.00? Could that POSSIBLY be the way they plan to make up the money they are losing in their settlement? How many people won't even notice the extra $3.00 increase? And for those who will notice, they will just say it was a error and deduct it?

That sounds like they are trying to make up, what they will be paying out, hoping people will not actually read their monthly bills. Good advice to always read very carefully all your bills, for whatever service you are receiving.

They keep creeping up the Internet fees on me. When I started, it was $24.99 a month for the DSL service, they raised it and I complained, so they dropped it back again, now it's up to $30.00, so when I seen it at $33.00, I said no way! I don't even think it's worth more than the $25.00 a month and if I can find a better DSL cheaper, I'd get it...Only thing that I'm concerned about is losing my 5,000 + Emails.

I just switched to DSL elite with AT&T. $24.99 a month. I will definitely watch my bill! Thanks for the info!

I have Verizon DSL and they have increased the fee last month. 5 years ago, when I first got Verizon DSL it was $20. And over the 5-year span, the fee is now up to $33.99. If push comes to shove when the fee is unreasonable, I will quit Verizon DSL and use my Pre-paid wireless internet with VirginMobile which only $20/month.

DB, I wouldnt use ISP for emails. What will happen when you close your ISP account or switch over to another ISP. I would use Yahoo, Hotmail, or Gmail for emails.

True DB, get all of your old emails backed up on Outlook or something and do what MRM suggests ASAP. Gmail seems the hot ticket these days because of all the goodies Google is throwing into the mix for the users.

I'll look into it. First I have to get my 'puter back to Windows XP and get rid of this crap they call Windows 7. Then I'll check on other DSL services.

that is just why I WON"T let any CO. dig into my money accounts. Too easy to miss just thoes sortof tricks. ATT got so bad here in Alabama, I had to get the local P.U.C. on thier asses.They were stuffing my bill with all sorts of addon's . SOooo I QUIT them ,I advis anyone useing them to go elsware , it's cheaper elsware !!!.

Thanks to the person that just voted my review, 'helpful'...I had forgotten all about this and just realized, I never got a check or credit from them...and it's been TWO YEARS now!

Once again, a helpful vote brought me back to this complaint ... and once again, I realize I STILL haven't recieved any check from them!!!

Ok, this is funny now...I just posted the above comment two days ago and guess what???? I JUST GOT MY $7.80 Class action settlement check in the mail today...the class action was filed in 2009...LOL! Now, the problem is...what am I going to do with all this money???... Now...they still owe me another refund because I had their service at my other apartment with a different account number that I told them about, during the time of their deceit....
