Alamo Complaint - I wish I've read the reviews before renting from Alamo
ALAMO CAR RENTAL, FLORIDA -- Rented a car from Alamo on 10/17/2009 at Fort Lauderdale Airport. They gave me a mini-van instead of the full size car I requested. Jumped in the car and put our luggage on the back seat and drove immediately to Islamorada Key to visit my sister. Neither we nor the agent spent the time inspecting the car.
The following day we purchased some grocery and tried to load them in the cargo area but the back door wouldn't open, by checking I found out that the door locking mechanism is missing (only the external handle was there). I didn't call Alamo figuring out it's such an obvious problem they will understand.
Upon returning the vehicle, the agent was asking if everything was OK and I mentioned to her the issue with the lock. She called the manager who came and apologized and gave us (5) ten-dollars coupons to use for future rentals.
Now, five and half months later, we receive a letter from Alamo Damage Recovery Unit (which I feel is a third party business making a cut of what they collect) asking us to pay $394.80 for the damage.
I like to know how many people inspect latching mechanism for every door before leaving the lot??
I hope Alamo use some common sense in resolving my case.
