Happy Japan Complaint - Happy Japan isn't so happy

Review by lmb111082 on 2010-04-07
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE -- Happy Japan had me special order items from a shop in Japan for them so they could resell the items in their store. I was not given enough time to make the purchase, was paid late for the items and therefore had to pay for them out of my own pocket, and then was told to send the items on my own dime and they would reimburse me. The owner then filed a Paypal dispute against me over the items so I was forced to send the items or lose much more than the cost to ship! It cost me $120 to send the items, $30 of which the company initially paid me, but I haven't seen the remaining $90. Emails and phone calls go ignored. Please avoid this store at all costs!
Company Response on 04/13/2010:
We hired this person as an assistant on February 4th and placed this order on February 6th for a show on March 12th. We sent her over $400 for merchandise, shipping and commission. As the show approached she did not answer our emails and only until I sent an email demanding to know the status on the merchandise did she say that she was too busy to send it and we would not get it in time for the show. We got back on March 17th and much to my surprise, no items. After several unanswered emails, I filed a dispute with Paypal. After weeks of the dispute with no communication I escalated it to a claim to get my money back. Only after she was unable to use her Paypal account that she tried to contact us, which were did not respond letting Paypal be the mediator. She sent me an email demanding the additional shipping before I received my items, which the terms we discussed were payment for all items first with a down payment for shipping, only after receipt of merchandise would shipping be in full with commission. Her lack of communication and inability to meet deadlines made us loose all faith in her as an employee and cost a mom and pop small business much needed revenue. The remaining balance the shipping cost has been paid now that we have received the merchandise.

Sounds like a scam to me.

Wow, what a bunch of lies... not surprised at all. I have all the emails that completely contradict what you're saying, including the "weeks" of no email before escalating it to a claim... you waited ONE DAY! Protip: don't ever end up hospitalized or else you'll be scammed by a heartless "business." Even Paypal said they think I was dealing with a scammer!

i'd say forget them and resell the items yourself
there's a good market for a lot of japanese items.

PepperElf, I had to ship the items because they filed a dispute against me through Paypal, so I don't have them any longer.
