Kroger Complaint - Incorrect Prices on Advertised Products - Perdue Fit&Easy Ground Turkey Breast

Perdue Fit&Easy Ground Turkey Breast - Complaint
Review by Principissa on 2010-04-08
Like most families today we are on a very strict food budget.

I went into Kroger this morning to take advantage of the sale they were having on ground turkey and to pick up some groceries for the week.

The ground turkey was advertised as $1.99 per pound of Perdue Fit&Easy ground turkey breast. I picked up three packages that had that exact wording since that was what the sales sign said.

When I got to my car to unload the groceries I was looking at my receipt and realized that I had been charged over 14.00 for three pounds of ground turkey. For that price I could have bought a whole bird.

I went inside to customer service with the turkey packages and my receipt and the girl called the meat department. The gentleman from the meat department stated that I had the wrong brand and therefore was not getting the sale price.

I asked for a manager. I explained to the manager what the sign said, even went back there with him and showed him the sign along with my ground turkey and told him that these were the only packages that said Fit&Easy Ground Turkey Breast and if this is the wrong product the sign should be changed to reflect the correct product.

He agreed with me, and according to him the wrong product was programmed into the system and had an employee redo it so that the right product was on sale. He apologized and gave me a refund of 10.09.

I know that 10 bucks doesn't sound like a lot of money, nor should I have been making such a big deal over 3 packages of ground turkey, but I can't help but wonder how many others were overcharged because of an error caused by their employees.

$10 IS a lot of money, especially when you consider the total bill. I'm glad the manager did the right thing without a major fuss.

should this review be a compliment? Errors do happen, I even made one myself, a long time ago.

No it shouldn't be. I don't know if they changed the sign or if they didn't. Yes I got my money back, but not until I went through 2 employees and a manager.

I know mistakes happen, but seriously, over charging me over 10 bucks, that's a big mistake.

I know how annoying it is to get home and realize that. One of the chains up here has the policy that if the price is wrong, you get it free (it's the law in CT, so they just enforce it chain wide). Kind of, well, "encourages" everyone to get the price right on the shelf and in the system downloads.

MDS, what was that like, making one of those "errors"? :)

It really is annoying. Luckily I hadn't left the lot yet so I was able to catch it before going home, but man!

I hear ya, Princi. I bought some cheap coffee maker at the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving because it was on sale for $15.99. I got out to the lot and checked the receipt, and they charged me $29.99. Had to trudge back in there and wait in line for awhile, but they didn't even check my receipt. They just gave me my money back. I should have said it was on sale for $5. Anyway, I guess I got lucky because I didn't have to jump through hoops to get my money back.

Shoot I'd become rabid over being overcharged a buck. Hopefully you saved somebody else from getting overcharged as well. Good job Princi!

Why thank you Stew!

I usually don't fret over small mistakes, but this was a huge one. The guy from the meat department should have straightened it out for you right away without having to wait even longer for a manager. When I'm overcharged, I too think about all the people who don't notice the mistake. That adds up to a lot of extra money for the store.

I'm hoping they did the right thing and changed the sign. If it was a buck or two I probably wouldn't have been so upset, but I was overcharged well over ten dollars.
