Chase Manhattan Bank Complaint - Chase refused to waive late fee of a loyal customer
I have been a customer of Chase as a credit cardholder for nearly 3 years. Recently they decided that they would raise my APR 6 points from 8.99 to 15.00 for no other reason than, they are hurting because of the economy. I had not missed a payment and had in fact been making much more than my regular monthly payment on a consistent basis. When I had forgotten to make my payment this last month, I went online and made the payment and saw that there was a late fee of $39.00. I called Chase and spoke to a representative who refused to waive the late fee, stating that the company has decided not to waive late fees as a courtesy from now on. I asked for a supervisor and she told me she was an account manager and that no matter who I talked to, the fee would not be waived. I advised her that because they had forced me to close my account last year because of their absurd rate raise and now because they refuse to waive a late fee for a customer that has never missed a payment until now, they will never regain my business. Chase needs to realize that there are many credit card companies and banks out there competing for our business and they will never get to the top with poor customer service and ridiculous policies that they have in place!
