Courtyard by Marriott Complaint - Marriot stole 1000.00 from my bankcard! - Sandra (manager)

Sandra (manager) - Complaint
Review by noplazma on 2010-04-12
TUCSON, ARIZONA -- 2 days after our stay at the courtyard marriot in Tucson, my husband and I saw on our online banking, that Marriot had charged us 1000.00 for our overnite stay! When I called to ask the manager Sandra what was the mix up, she said "oh that is for the TV that is missing out of your room"..I said ..ARE YOU F_ING INSANE ? she said that if we had a problem.."call the police " then said that she was not going to talk to me anymore about it !.ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?? She also said ..after I called from another phone, because she was ignoring my calls after the initial call"you were the last one to go in that room" I said "oh really is there any survalance cameras there?" she said "no..we do not have any survalance cameras here" I said what ???are you f-ing kidding me ? how is it that you say I was the last one in the room? she said "the keycard" I said "ok what time was that ? " and she said "that is none of your business, that is company info "..are you f-ing kidding me ? Long nightmare short...we have a copy of our checkout time of 11:16 am..and the police eventually checked the "keycard log' and found that the last entery into that room was 11:22...we did not steal a TV from these money hugary, rude, insane people at the hotel!!!!! we had to cancel our bankcard, because 3 days after our stay we had an additional charge of 2.50 on top of the 1000.00 that the manager stole from our account !

I am still try'n to nail this machine known as the MARRIOT, and I will have my day in court !!!!

We still get no response from Marriot. they are keeping our 1000.00!

ing kidding me ?

Profanity aside, that is pretty scary. Take them to court. Better yet, call Judge Judy!

Seriously? I really hope you know about Debit Card and Credit Card disputes. All you have to do is go to your bank and tell them you need to "file a dispute against a hotel for illegal charges." I just left my job as a personal banker...I promise you, you will get your money back quicker and easier this way.

This sounds like someone struggling in their position of authority. It also sounds VERY likely that this is a franchise rather than a corporate entity. I'd go higher up the chain and find out who is where in the pecking order. Simply charging a card without any real investigation is likely to have more consequences than a forced return of the money. Have you investigated pressing charges?

if the police are involved .... have you talked to the credit card company yet about the charges?

I have to agree with AeonClaw and PepperElf. The credit/debit card company or bank should be able to help you get this straightened out in a hurry. Hope you have already contacted them.

This is another example of why NOT to use your debit card for hotel transaction.

When checking out or leaving the room, this is the reason why I always play with door knob several times to make sure that the door is locked tight.

I'm not sure the bank can reverse the debit transaction, since the OP gave them the card. It is not as if it was used as a stolen card. The bank cannot determine whether this was fraudulent, or buyer's remorse, so generally speaking they cannot reverse. It is way different with a credit card. This may have to end up as a small claims case.

My daughter had a dispute regarding her debit card. The bank got to the bottom of it immediately and credited her account. Then they dealt with the person who took the money out of her account, which was a business. It all came out in my daughter's favor. So, maybe the op's bank will be able to help after all.

I did everything "right"..I notified my bank, canceled my card (because they kept charging me 4 days later for 2.50) I filed a dispute, my bank gave me the 1000.00 back, but if marriot does'nt give my bank back the money I have to give the bank back the money. You know, if this Marriot used secutity cameras, it may have helped.but now I have the proof to het them in their disgusting theivery!

Do yourself a favor and keep documents and proof of your time and efforts to resolve this. Situations like this are actually WHY there are lawsuits. Every minute on a call for this is chargeable to the Marriot. Every time you have to expose the fact that the Marriot called you a thief in public, you should be compensated. Lawyers can be a good thing sometimes, amazingly enough..

When the bank gave you your money, they took it from the Marriott.
