DirecTV Inc Complaint - Watch that fine print!
BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA -- I had been with Direct TV for roughly six years but still had to pay 220 dollars to terminate my contract. You have to be very careful what you ask for and read the fine print. When I got a roommate Direct TV refused to let them get their own account at my address so I was forced to add an HD DVR to another room for 200 dollars (excessive since AT&T charges 7 dollars for the same thing). Well having no choice or lose the roommate I got the receiver but did not read the fine print...THEY RESTARTED MY CONTRACT FOR ANOTHER TWO YEARS!!! 8 months later when the roommate moved out I returned the DVR and then later tried to cancel and go with AT&T. That is when I was told I had to pay 220 dollars. They refused to negotiate or even give me a reduced rate for being with them so long. They just kept telling me about the fine print on all the paperwork. I was a year short of the contract so they offered to reinstate me but at their lowest rate of 29.95 they were actually offering me to pay 359.40 instead of the 220 dollar termination fee. They thought I was really stupid. I am very happy with AT&T and I hope people wake up with the ripoff policies of Direct TV. I just added another room for seven dollars and it has all the same capabilities. It receives HD and records programs. WATCH YOUR FINE PRINT. They reminded me of the fine print but realistically, who really reads all of the fine print when the installation man is at your house!!!
