Portfolio Recovery Complaint - Trying to collect from me from an unknown debtor

Review by vellsworth on 2010-04-14
I started getting calls several weeks ago asking for "_____" - at first I had NO idea who they were talking about. Third time we got so far as address and she had the same as me! - and then I remembered a woman by that name, who had lived next door several years ago - a woman whose habits were sooooo atrocious that her apartment had to be fumigated by men in Hazmat suits. her poor dogs were never walked - she stayed home on 'disability' and let the bathtub run over for hours, so that the apartments on either side of her had to have the carpets replaced. I helped the landlord have her evicted by writing him an official letter that he was endangering my life by allowing her to remain - and, as she said, smoke cigarettes in bed!
So now she's 'returned' after 5 years and Portfolio Recovery has decided that since we once lived next door, I must have info on her!!!!! I don't even know her last name!!! And I have explained this twice - yet they just called again half hour ago. Anyone know how to report companies like this???
PS - how can I select a category or sub-category - they won't tell me what they want!

Here's a nice government FAQ about Debt collectors that gives you what they can, and can't ask you. It also lists how to make them stop contacting you. Good luck!
