Workout World Complaint - Workout World Disgusts me!
MEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS -- A friend of mine is a member at the Medford, MA location of WOW and got me a guestpass for a workout on the evening of the 11/15/2004. I liked the facilities and equipment, but the sales person (Chris) disgusted me.
I was quite interested in signing up but wanted to know what specials they had running and what my friend would receive in return for making the recommendation. I explained to him that I was leaving on the 1 Dec and would be away for the next 2 months, but in the meantime I wanted to use the facilities. I asked about the daily rate. Instead of being polite and walking me through the options and the contract he kept throwing different options at me. When i tried to explain to Chris that I was not prepared to layout the membership fee right now, he made an offer of $0 signup fee & $30 months for 24 months. He told me I could cancel at anytime. I thought this was ok and was willing to sign up even though he was being a bit pushy and rude. I asked him if he was going to be in the next day as I would come in then and signup. He wanted to know why I did not want to sign up immediately. He kept asking what the difference was if I signed up now or tomorrow. I explained that my wallet was in the car and that i needed to get going as I was late for an appointment. That's when he got even ruder and more insulting in his demeanor.
I walked away as I could not believe that someone who was trying to sell me something was actually behaving in this disgusting manner, treating me, a potential client, with rudeness and disrespect and think that I would still support their business? I don't think so.
My friend was so upset with Chris. She went over to speak to him and his answer to her was that all he was doing was his job. He told her that that is how they are taught to do their jobs and are told not to let a sale walk out the door.
If this is how they treat all new potential clients, come on - don't you think you deserve more respect? Why support WOW when there are a lot more decent gyms out there who would value you as a client. Why support a business like this who train their sales staff to treat you in this manner. I don't think they deserve your business!
