Sears Complaint - Appliance Repair Warranty Scam
NATICK, MASSACHUSETTS -- I called Sears to repair my refrigerator, not knowing what was wrong with it, other than it wasn't working, I got offered to plunk down 250 for a year warranty which would "cover everything". I said no and opted for the $75 charge for the visit to go towards the repair. Turned out it was a computer circuit board, a five minute repair, a $212 part, and $186 charge in labor. I repeat A FIVE MINUTE REPAIR!. The Sears specialist told me they charge by the job, not by the time. How convenient, so if you don't know why your item is broken, you're basically given an option of flipping a coin, take the warranty, it may be an plug that isn't in, and we'll do everything. Don't take the warranty and we'll ream you with a predecided figure. After calling and complaining about the exorbitant labor charge, it was reiterated to me once again that I was given the option of the $250 warranty, I chose not to take it, and there was nothing they would do. I flipped a coin and lost. I asked who decided the "price of a job" and I was told people in their research department set the prices.
Learn by my experience, don't call Sears for appliance repair.
