Delta, Alitalia and Air France Complaint - Wrong Airport, Lost luggage, Missing items
This is my first report to this site. I've been looking around for a singular place to voice my complaints - as there are three different airlines involved in my tale.
I purchased tickets on Delta Airlines from Newark, NJ to Naples, Italy.
The flights were code shared with Alitalia and went well on the trip to Naples, via Rome.
The return was a different story.
We arrived at the Naples airport at 10am for a 12:30 flight to Milan. The Alitalia check in clerk told us "your reservations have been cancelled" !! Well, it turned out that the flight from Milan to Newark had been cancelled for the day. Instead they were going to put us on an Air France flight to Paris - then from Paris to JFK airport in NY. My car was parked at Newark airport (probably only 40 miles away - but possibly much longer than that would suggest when you consider traffic.) After trips to this counter, that counter, another counter, etc - phone conversation with Delta airlines that suggested we wait until the next day for the Alitalia flight to be resumed - they issued the Air France tickets. The flight to Paris was late taking off. We arrived in Paris 25 minutes before our flight was to leave from a different terminal - also required a bus from one to the other, a series of down escalator stairs that were not running, immigration check of passports, up more escalator stairs that were not working, security check of bags, shoes, carry-ons and a mad dash to the gate. The plane had evidently been held - as there were many making connections from other late flights. The trip to JFK was very nice! Air France seems to have a bit more leg room than Alitalia, food was interesting.
On arrival, baggage claim - 2 people had checked 3 bags. Two bags arrived, one did not. We went and filled out the reports. I specifically asked that the bag when found, NOT be delivered in the middle of the night. By the next morning, Air France had called to say the bag had been located and would arrive that day between 4pm and 6pm.
It didn't. It arrived at 3:50 A.M. !! and had to be signed for. I'd used the cable ties (which can be removed if necessary by security) All three had been removed, as had the luggage strap. Inside was a card that said Air France had found the suitcase "unidentified" in Paris and had opened it to identify where it belonged. That's not true - the tags were still on it - as was my luggage ID tag. The card also said that they'd removed "dangerous and perishable items" - the 4 cashmere scarves that I'd bought for my daughters and daughter-in-law!!!! Very dangerous and perishable stuff. I don't even know if anything else is missing - it's such a jumble.
A call to Air France baggage resulted in being told that I'd have to send them
copies of my tickets,
copies of my boarding passes
copies of the luggage claim tag
and receipts for the missing items.... (which I don't have) But - if these were not new items, what are the chances that you'd have receipts for everything in your bag?
The scarves were not expensive - but the time spent picking out the exact colors for each of these girls and the loss of joy at being able to give them to them doesn't have a price tag.
Most likely I just wanted to get the story out!
I don't expect anyone to have suggestions as to what I can do, but would love to hear them if anyone does have ideas.
