American Moving and Storage Las Cruces Complaint - Bad Movers! Do not use!

Review by A.L.J. on 2010-04-24
LAS CRUCES -- I contracted with United Van Line (United Van Lines local agent is American Moving and Storage in Las Cruces). United Van Lines agreed to a price for a move, then they said they could not do everything they stated. So I agreed to different terms. They initially refused to tell me where my stuff would be stored overnight. Then, he said they were going to keep it at the house of their employee. I did not want this. They did not pack and tag everything, and they said they would finish on the day of the move.

When I asked to check to see if everything was tagged, they refused! When I demanded to verify that all boxes where properly tagged, they said they did not want to move any more. They kept the truck parked in front of my driveway until the police finally told them to move it. I offered to pay $600 for the packing, which equates to appx. $25/hr per person and about the same retail price for boxes that U-haul charges, but they refused to accept. They demanded appx. $1000! I complained to United Van Lines, but they defended their local agent and claimed I "canceled" the move! Then their local agent sued me for appx. $1500! I requested arbitration with United and their agent, as specified in their contract, but they both refused! Fighting their claim would have meant going back to NM, so I settled. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!

Your first two sentences say it all. The moment they said they could not fulfill the contract they'd agreed to would have been the time to stop dealing with them.
