I have used Progrssive as my primary auto insurance carrier in the past and later went with Travelers at AAA because they offered a better package since I have more than one car. I have since been involved in an accident not my fault which totaled my car. The person who hit me was with Progressive and I am still using Travelers. Progressive was willing to accept liability for the accident since it was not my fault.
What I learned was interesting. Progressive uses a different method for placing a value on a damaged car. My insurance company, Travelers, was willing to give me $13,760 for my car and they use a company called Auto Source for appraising the car. This is what it would cost me to buy my car from a dealer. On the other hand, Progressive seemed to appraise the value using the lowest amount from the blue book as if it were being sold from a private seller or what the dealer would give for trade-in, which was a little over $9,000. So I had my insurance company take possession of my car for the higher amount and will let them fight with Progressive for their money back. I feel sorry for the guy who hit me because he may not like Progressive's evaluation of his car, which have also been totalled.
