Bank of America Complaint - Reaped of by their new sly "over draft charges".
A month ago I personally went to my BOFA local branch and opted out of the over draft protection. It has been working out good until yesterday when I found out that BOFA had charged my checking account $75 for (1) Exxon mobile Gas Station fee $2.34...... A bottle of soda and chips...plus overdraft fee $35.00 total =$37.34...... (2) MacDonald..kids meal $3.85 plus overdraft fees $35.00 total $38.85.
When I saw this, I got sick in my stomach because I knew %150 I had some money left in the temporary checking account enough to take care of these miscellaneous. I called Customer service and they told me the reason this occurred even though I do not have overdraft protection plan is because the merchants .. ExxonMobil and McDonald did not claim their payment for 36 hours. Wait a minute is that my problem? if there are pending bills then why let my card be approved for purchases. They should check for pending bills before they approve any purchases from my debt card.
Any let me cut the story short, I called McDonald and ExxonMobile and they both emphasized that when I made the purchases from them BOFA approved the payments on the spot otherwise if BOFA hadn't approved the payments there is no way the they card machine could have accepted the purchase. Bottom line is BOFA is hiding pending bills, holding back until your available balance is lower than the pending bills then they make they pounce and make the killing. It is very sad but I know one day, come what may I will be vindicated and BOFA will pay back. Meanwhile, good news, I'm moving my money to a local community bank.
