Vonage Compliment - Vonage Service in Canada
I live in Burlington, Ontario and have been a Vonage customer for about 3 years. I don't understand the negative press that Vonage receives and so wanted to quickly share my experience.
In particular, what I very much don't understand is that people gloss over the fact that Vonage emails you your voicemails, provides unlimited calling within North America, call waiting - all the standard service features and some extra bundled with no extra charge.
The single biggest thing that people gloss over, and this literally why I switched to VOIP, is that I can bring my phone line with me when I travel. People can call me just like I'm at home and I can call out when I'm on the road. I bring it when I'm on vacation in the Caribbean.
As far as call quality and stability, it depends on your internet connection. In Canada we have stable, reliable, high speed internet. Connection is not a problem for me. Ever. This isn't so much a reflection of the Vonage service as it is my ISP's uptime. I’ve not had telephone downtime of more than 30 or so minutes over the last 2 years.
One last note, before Vonage I had Rogers. Rogers is by far, the worst company on earth in regards to customer service. When I call Vonage I get a sales representative on the line within 5 minutes. With Rogers, I get a sales representative one the line, who takes down my issue, creates a ticket, and then I never get a call back. And when I call into Rogers again they cannot forward me to the original support rep.
In summary, when comparing Vonage to a traditional phone service the features aren't even comparable. The Vonage service allows me to travel with my home phone line. It's just ridiculous to compare it to a traditional phone service as Vonage / VOIP is so much superior. As far as customer service goes, while it may not be absolutely perfect, it's so much better than my previous land line phone provider (Rogers) that it's laughable.
If you are considering Vonage, and if you have the basic ability to plug the Vonage device into your cable modem, then you will love the service. It's not just better than a traditional land line, the service is really so many times superior. I really don't understand the negative press they get, and can only assume it's encouraged by the traditional phone service who are (and will continue) to lose market share left right and cetner to superior services like Vonage.
