Plattsburgh Mail and Shipping Center Complaint - An excessive mark-up over UPS shipping rates to ship a package via UPS Ground

Review by Don D. on 2010-04-28
PLATTSBURGH, NEW YORK -- I recently visited Plattsburgh Mail and Shipping Center, located on Route 3 in Plattsburgh, to return an item that I had ordered from Amazon.com, but no longer needed.

I packed and sealed the box myself and brought it to Plattsburgh Mail and Shipping Center in order to have it shipped via UPS Ground to the Amazon.com Return Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The woman at the counter, whose name was "Weena", told me that it would cost $29.50 to ship the item using UPS Ground. I thought that this price was a bit excessive, so I told the woman "thanks, but no thanks" and I brought the package directly to the United Parcel Service facility located a few miles away on Banker Road. At that facility, I was told that it would cost $16.25 to ship the package using UPS Ground... $13.25 less than the price I was quoted at Plattsburgh Mail and Shipping Center!

I understand that Plattsburgh Mail and Shipping Center is a for profit business, but I think that it is highly unethical to charge customers a mark-up of more than 80% over UPS shipping rates to ship a package! I'm glad that I wasn't ripped off, but I'd like to warn other potential customers of the excessive mark-up charged by this unethical business!
