Levitz Furniture Corporation Complaint - Terrible quality of merchandise, no customer service
I bought a dining room set and a bedroom set at the Levitz store in Pleasanton, CA on 7/5/04. The merchandise was due to be delivered on 8/6.
We received a telephone call on 8/4 stating that the bedroom set was backordered and would be delivered the middle of Dec. We accepted the delivery time for the dining room set.
The first dining room set came with a damaged chair, a table with a dent the size of a basesball on top and no hutch. We arranged to have a new table and chair delivered the same time as the bedroom set the middle of Aug.
The second dining room table did not even make it out of the truck, it was also defective. Part of the bedroom set came, however no bed and the hutch of the bedroom set was defective.
Another delivery date was set up in Sept to replace the table and to have a service man look at the bedroom set (still no bed.) They brought out a third defective table and said that they would order a replacement part for the bedroom hutch. We received a replacement part for something, but it was not to the bedroom set.
They delivered a fourth table which was not defective, however the leaves to the table were defective. They would not leave the old leaves that were fine, instead they scheduled to deliver yet another table in October. We were still waiting for a bed and to have the bedroom hutch repaired.
I warned Levitz that it they send out another defective piece of furniture or if the bed was defective, everyting was going to be returned. Surprise, the bed came broken. We had some friends over to dinner using the defective dining room table and the finish rubbed off on the shirt of one of our guests.
Levitz picked up everything on 11/6 and assured me that they would credit my AMEX the entire amount plus credit the Levitz card for the portion I had put on it. I called three times to insure that my AMEX had been credited as it is a lot of money that they have paid for in advance. After receiving my latest AMEX statement, no credit, I once again called the store manager in Pleasanton. She insisted that she had never spoken to me before, although I asked her to talk to the saleperson who had transferred me to her a couple of times. He well remembers the sale as he lost a lot of commission when it was returned. Now the store manager is telling me that they cannot credit my AMEX, I have to wait for a refund check from the store that still has not been processed.
Levitz not only has the poorest quality of merchandise I have ever seen, their customer service is non-existent and their managers have a severe loss of memory. Not only has this cost us financially due to having to wait for refunds (even though they want their money paid in full 7 days before delivery), it has cost us hours and hours off of work to be here to refuse defective furniture.
