Babiesrus Complaint - Poor Customer service

Review by SeanMo on 2010-04-30
HAZELWOOD, MISSOURI -- We are celebrating our first child, and are registered at Babies R Us (of course!). Had we known how terrible a company Babiesrus is, we would have NEVER done business there. My family had flown to Missouri from South Florida to attend the baby shower. At the shower, we received a gift in the wrong color, but we thought we would just exchange it. Eager to finish the registry, we load up the item, and my family, and off to the St Louis Mills location we go. At the location they refuse the exchange because a coupon and a discount were used. I don't care if it was bought with wompum, I don't want money back, just the right color. No deal, so I call the corporate number, 5 days later, and 6 customer service representatives later, we finally receive word that we will have to submit a letter to the corporate address!!!! We have since canceled our registry and will NEVER do business there again.

All because of a coupon?

That doesn't sound right at all. Where I work (same policies as BRU) you get the money you paid for the item, meaning the price after the coupon and other discounts. So that doesn't seem right at all. If it's sold at Toys R Us AND you have a receipt...they will take it back. Or try another BRU.

Was the discount to the point where the item was free? That might be why they aren't taking it back too, it was free so they can't technically give you credit for it. That's the only thing I can think of.

I might be reading this wrong, but I think the OP was offered a refund in the amount of the purchase price, and she actually wanted to exchange it for another color.

Regardless, the exchange should have been made. I have had pretty good luck at Babies R Us, but I have heard other stories about them being really strict about things.

when i was registered at babies r us they let me return or exchange things for color, size, or damaged if the item was on my registry and shown that someone bought it. they never even asked for receipts or gift receipts.

that does sound odd. you have been able to exchange with no problems

True sq, if the item was on a registry, and your gifter presented the registry at the time of purchase, they will almost always allow you to return it without a receipt. This is why I don't completely understand what the issue is here...
