Winsted Tire and Auto Sales Complaint - Bad Repair - Repair of Overheating Problem

Review by gchoogen on 2010-05-02
WINSTED, CONNECTICUT -- I took my 2003 Chevy Venture in because it was overheating when idling. They put on a thermostat, a serpentine belt and did a radiator flush at $450. When I got it home, I sat idling it again and it was doing the same thing AND was making a noise under the hood which it wasn't doing before. The serpentine belt was falling apart and making tapping noises against the engine. Took the van back and the mechanic, the shop owner and an "apprentice" took it in the garage and a few minutes later they said I needed a cylinder head gasket at $2097 estimate! I said I'd think about it. I got it home the second time there appeared to be a new serpentine belt on it and it's worked fine ever since. My new mechanic says that it doesn't need a new head gasket and it didn't need the flush or the thermostat which was already replaced in November of 2009!
