Jones of Warren PA Informative - Stalling by GMC - Checking for oil consumption

Review by crash61 on 2010-05-03
WARREN, PENNSYLVANIA -- I purchased a 2007 GMC with a 5.3 engine and 27,500 miles on it from Jones Chevrolet Buick Pontiac GMC of Warren PA.16365. While on a trip to Florida with 1700 miles on the oil change the "check engine oil" information came on. I had to add 1-1/2 Quarts of oil. On the way home we put another 1700 miles on this same oil change and again had to add another quart but it was down 1-1/2 quarts.

I then drove it to Jones and later that day they said they checked the engine for oil leaks and found none and to drive it for 1000 miles and they would re-check it. I asked them if they did a engine compression check and the said no. After a few words they said they would keep it and check further which they say they did.

They called back and said they had received something from GM about #8 cylinder and they pulled a spark plug and it looked dry. They also said they put in some die and did a oil change and to drive it for 1000 miles and bring it back to them.
So for four day's they had the truck and did not do a compression check. They put some additive in the new oil and I still have an oil burner. Now I can screw around for 1000+ miles, put the truck back in and wait some more. They did say they have to do this before they can go on.

The questions I have are, is there a problem with #8 cylinder in this engine or are you having trouble with some of the 5.3 engines?
