Work out World Calgary Complaint - Read the fine print: one year contract may be forever

Review by simly on 2010-05-07
CALGARY -- REad the fine print: you sign a one year contract but could be on the hook for monthly payments for a long long time and a nasty battle with managers who do not give a hoot about customer care and a nasty battle with collection agency. your credit card will be charged for ever if you do not follow a complicated cancellation process. the assumption when signing a one year contract is that it is over after one year. not with WOW... they keep taking your money and they get nasty if you complain.

People have really got to start reading what they sign.

If you get a cell phone and have a 2 year contract, does the phone go dead at the tick of midnight? No. It becomes a month-to-month. If you sign up for cable TV and get a special deal which requires a contract, does it go dark the day after the contract term ends? No. It becomes month-to-month. Virtually all service related contracts work that way.

The great news is that they also have very specific instructions on how to cancel. Usually involves a certified letter with 30 days notice.

It seems that all gyms function the same way. I would never contract myself to work out.

If you know you are going to make the commitment, the contract is really no big deal.
