Best Buy Complaint - One year full warranty on parts and labor does not apply
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Problems with a component, but which?
Bought Sony Bravia TV
Yamaha home theatre in a box
Brought in Samsung VHS/DVD and was told I had to pay minimum of $34 even if nothing wrong. Okay, I did that as I was told up front and 90 warranty up. No problem. I had already disconnected components after paying to have hooked up and will have to pay to have tech person connect again.
Brought in Yamaha Receiver at same time and was told it was under one year warranty for parts and labor - period. No minimum, no "ifs" - it was covered under warranty. I was told when calling Yamaha about problem I was having to bring it in to Best Buy as they were an authorized service center. I was told by Geek Squad when dropping off (very nice young man) that problem may be with my cable box if not receiver. (which, if diagnostic charge with nothing wrong, should have been mentioned at that time) All likelihood was problem was with Receiver because TV and VHS issues.
Went to pick up after both back and they charged $34 for diagnostic fee on Yamaha Receiver because they didn't find a problem! It was under warranty and I was not told of a charge, in fact, told I would not be charged due to warranty. I was never informed of a charge if no problem was found! If I had been informed of a possible charge if nothing found (since we could not clearly tell where a problem might be based on the issues), I would have been upset at that time! The manager, who said he would also be upset but cannot do anything about it, said if something had been wrong - button broken or anything - there would not have been a charge.
Ridiculous! Be very careful when purchasing something and know that there will be undisclosed fees which they cannot alter (cannot/will not change labor fees) so the one year warranty for parts and labor does NOT cover labor to determine if something is wrong. If they cannot find a problem, there is a fee which they will not tell you about when you take it in.
I was told I could avoid this if I had paid them $100 plus to come out and tell me something was not working properly, this I knew. I could have also avoided extra charge if I had purchased service agreement.
